Banana Plants with cast iron lamppost on Place d'Armes/ Jackson Square. French Quarter New Orleans.

The banana plants grow very large along the square. In the fall full size bananas are harvested. Often bananas are given to the Herman-Grima house for their outdoor kitchen.

My mother was given bananas often. She would prop a large bunch by the door and allow them to ripen. Guests were offered bananas they would pick from the stalk.
